Therapy should feel like a place where you can exhale, where you don’t have to perform, explain everything, or have it all figured out.

Meet Joleyne:

First, I would like to start by saying that I am glad you are here and to thank you for considering me as your therapist.

Looking for a therapist takes vulnerability and courage. You need a sounding board, a holder of stories; someone who you can have complete trust in. As a therapist, I believe this means showing up as my authentic, genuine self. With that in mind, I'd like to share a little about myself and the journey that led me to become a therapist.

My Story:

My journey to becoming a therapist…

Was shaped by a deep curiosity about how people heal, grow and connect to themselves and others. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been drawn to understanding people on a deeper level; what they're carrying, what's shaped them, what they truly need to feel better, and the way experiences live not just in our thoughts, but in our bodies, relationships and sense of self.

After earning my A.A. in Humanities and Social Science, I took some time away from academics as I navigated life's many experiences and transitions. When I returned to school, I completed my B.A. in Public Justice at SUNY Oswego, where my studies emphasized human services and community support.

Following graduation, I began a career in this field, helping individuals to access essential resources and services while supporting their overall health, wellness, and independence within the community. Through this work, my natural inklings, and my own personal journey of growth and self-discovery, I gained valuable insight into the challenges people face and the transformative impact of compassionate support. These experiences ultimately inspired me to pursue a career as a therapist, where I could help others navigate their own paths toward healing and well-being.

In 2022, I completed a Master of Science (MS) in Mental Health Counseling from SUNY Oswego, and in 2023 completed an Advanced Certificate in Interdisciplinary Trauma Studies. Soon after, I began a career in private practice offering individual therapy for teens and adults, where I became passionate about working with folks experiencing grief and loss. In 2025, I expanded on my career as a therapist to fulfill another passion of mine; teaching. I currently serve as a part-time Adjunct Instructor at SUNY Empire within their undergraduate psychology department.

I believe everyone deserves a space where they can fully be themselves without judgement. So in 2026, I created Grounded Roots Mental Health Counseling with the belief that healing emerges through relationships and spaces where you feel safe, seen, valued, and connected. I’m excited for this journey and to see where my practice grows.

My approach

My therapeutic style is compassionate, real and down-to-earth. When appropriate I integrate humor and welcome laughter, because well, sometimes we just need to be able to laugh, and laughter has a place in healing. I strive to create an environment where you feel comfortable and relaxed, so you feel safe in being your most vulnerable self.

This is your journey and I am hear to walk alongside you as an insightful guide, to help led you to a more empowered self.
